Uniport Calls for Probe into Student’s Death in Off-Campus Shooting
The University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) has expressed deep sorrow over the alleged killing of Godwin Akpakpan, a 300-level Computer Science student, who was reportedly shot dead by a security operative in an off-campus incident.
In a statement on Sunday, the university’s Head of Information, Publications and Public Relations, Dr. Sam Kpenu, said it is engaging with security authorities to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Kpenu said the university expects a thorough investigation and appropriate action that aligns with justice and the rule of law.
The school managemnet urged students and staff to remain calm and allow security agencies to conduct their investigations without interference. It also extended heartfelt condolences to Akpakpan’s family, and friends.
The university also reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its community, promising measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Rivers State Police Command has yet to comment on the alleged shooting.
