ValueJet Responds to Abuja Airport Incident

ValueJet airline has addressed the recent incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, which led to the suspension of its pilot and co-pilot by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The regulatory agency had sanctioned the flight crew for departing their designated bay without receiving mandatory clearance, stressing that the act was a serious safety violation.

According to the NCAA, the actions of the pilot, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba, endangered airport personnel and breached both national and international aviation standards. The authority immediately suspended their licenses, citing gross professional misconduct.

In a statement released on Wednesday, August 6, ValueJet acknowledged the incident and confirmed that the crew had been withdrawn from active duty pending an internal investigation. The airline stated that it is fully cooperating with the NCAA and reiterated that safety remains its highest operational priority.

ValueJet assured the public of its commitment to regulatory compliance and transparency, adding that it supports the NCAA’s swift response to the issue. The airline pledged to take appropriate action following the outcome of investigations and affirmed its dedication to maintaining public confidence in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
