Ijaw Youth Council Blames INEC, Remi Tinubu for Warri Ward Delay

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of failing to release the final ward delineation report for Warri Federal Constituency, despite a Supreme Court order. In a public statement titled “Truth Is Not Tribal, Stop Delaying Justice in Warri,”  the group said the delay is unfair and affects the Ijaw people’s right to equal representation.

The IYC alleged that some powerful individuals, including former Senator Daisy Danjuma and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, are pressuring INEC to keep the current ward structure, which they claim favours the Itsekiri ethnic group. They also said the title “Olu of Warri” is being used as a political tool and should not influence INEC’s decisions.

The Council provided legal documents, court rulings, and INEC’s own data to support their claim that Ijaw people have a strong population presence in the area. They also warned other groups, like the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), to stay out of Warri’s political matters.

The IYC made five demands, including the immediate release of the ward report and respect for court decisions. They warned that any further delay would be seen as a denial of justice and a threat to peace in the region.
