Police Arrests Two International Fugitives for Human Trafficking

Police have arrested two fugitives wanted abroad for human trafficking and armed robbery, marking a major step in the country’s fight against transnational crime.

Police spokesperson ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed the suspects identified as Felix Omoregie, alias Eghosa Johnson Omoregie, is leader of a trafficking gang wanted by Belgium, while Okwudili Ezeje is linked to an armed robbery group operating in Dubai.

Omoregie, was detained in Benin City. Belgian authorities had issued an INTERPOL Red Notice for Omoregie, accusing him of leading a trafficking ring that forced Nigerian women and girls into prostitution across Europe. Victims were reportedly subjected to voodoo rituals and psychological control through fabricated debts.

He was convicted in absentia in Belgium in 2021 and had been on the run. Police say a search of his residence uncovered documents suggesting plans to flee to Canada. He is set to appear in court in Benin City.

In a separate operation, police arrested 37-year-old Okwudili Sabastine Ezeje in Nsukka. Wanted in the UAE, he is accused of coordinating armed robberies and drug trafficking from Nigeria. Authorities link him to high-profile robberies in Dubai, including attacks on Al Ansari Exchange and a bureau de change.

The arrests were carried out with help from INTERPOL, the Nigerian security adviser’s office, and Dubai Police.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised officers for their efforts and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to international policing cooperation.
