Delta Reps Ereyitomi, Pondi, Others Dump PDP for APC
Six members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives from Delta State have defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), marking one of the largest single-state political realignments in recent years.
The announcements were made during Tuesday’s plenary session and read out by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.
Those who left the PDP for the APC include Victor Nwokolo (Ika North East/Ika South), Julius Pondi (Burutu), Thomas Ereyitomi (Warri federal constituency), Nicholas Mutu (Bomadi/Patani), Ukodhiko Jonathan (Isoko North/Isoko South), and Ezechi Nnamdi (Ndokwa/Ukwuani).
Meanwhile, LP lawmakers Obetta Chidi (Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South) and Dennis Agbo (Igbo-Eze North/Udenu) declared their defection to the PDP.
No official reasons were given for the defections, though political observers say internal party tensions and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 elections may have played a role.
The APC, which holds a majority in the House, is likely to benefit from the shift, further consolidating its legislative strength.
