The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III,CFR, has extended his condolences to former Senate Chief Whip, Sir Rowland Owie, following the death of his wife, Lady Helen Owie.

A delegation from the Warri Kingdom, led by Chief Yahya Pessu and including Chiefs Brown Mene and Lawrence Wilbert, visited Owie at his Benin home to deliver the monarch’s message. Chief Mene described Lady Owie’s passing as painful but said there was comfort in the dignified life she lived.

“There is nothing that happens without God’s design,” he said. “Our sister lived a worthy life.”

In his response, Owie paid tribute to his late wife’s strength and loyalty, recalling how her support helped secure the backing of late Pa Alfred Rewane for the 1979 governorship campaign of Prof. Ambrose Alli. Rewane had initially supported another candidate but agreed to fund Alli’s campaign after meeting Owie and his wife.

Owie described Lady Helen as the glue that held his family together and a woman whose strength, love, and loyalty shaped not only his destiny but the political landscape of Edo State.
