Police Arrest Man Claiming to be “Obi of Lagos”

Police in Lagos have arrested a 65-year-old man accused of falsely claiming the title of “Obi of Lagos,” along with three others linked to him.

The Lagos State Command said the group had planned to hold an unveiling ceremony on Saturday at a hall in Amuwo Odofin, where they intended to present a prototype of what they called a N1.5bn “Palace of the Obi of Lagos State.” Officers sealed the venue and deployed personnel to stop the event.

The suspects, named as Engr Chibuike Azubike, Chief Chibuzor Ani, Chief Martins Nwaodika and Mr Ikechukwu Franklin Nadi, are being held at police headquarters in Ikeja. Investigations are under way, with police saying they will face charges in court.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh urged residents to be vigilant against impostors exploiting traditional institutions, warning that such actions are unlawful and capable of disturbing public order.
