National Grid Collapses Again
The national electricity grid collapsed on Wednesday, causing widespread power outages across Nigeria. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the incident in a statement, saying supply was lost at 11:23 a.m.
AEDC assured customers that efforts were ongoing with stakeholders to restore supply once the grid stabilises. The company said the disruption had affected its franchise areas and urged patience from consumers.
The collapse adds to a troubling record. The grid failed 12 times in 2024 and more than 100 times in the past decade. Earlier this year, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission claimed no disturbance was recorded in the first quarter of 2025.
Despite approvals granted in April for private firms and a university to generate power, Nigerians continue to endure unreliable supply, fuelling frustration over the sector’s stability.
