Security Operatives Uncover Kidnap Camps in Edo Forests
Forests across parts of Edo State have been swept by joint security operatives in a campaign to dismantle criminal hideouts and reassure residents shaken by recent kidnappings.
The operation, coordinated under the state’s “Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers,” covered Ovia North-East, Esan North-East, Esan West and Esan South-East. Recovered items included locally made firearms and live cartridges, while abandoned camps suspected to have housed kidnappers were also found.
Authorities say the combing exercise follows abductions along the Benin–Akure Road, where passengers were recently taken hostage. Drones and tactical teams have since been deployed, with Governor Monday Okpebholo closely monitoring the campaign.
Security officials staged show-of-force patrols across several communities to signal the state’s determination to drive out criminal groups. Residents were urged to remain vigilant as operations continue in troubled areas.
