Okpebholo Suspends 18 LG Chairmen and Vice Chairmen
The Edo State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairmen and Vice chairmen of all 18 local government councils in the state for a period of two months, following a petition from Governor Monday Okpebholo.
In his letter to the Assembly, Governor Okpebholo cited the refusal of the council leaders to submit their financial records, describing it as “an act of insubordination and gross misconduct.” He called on lawmakers to address the matter.

The resolution to suspend the officials came after a motion was moved by Isibor Adeh, representing Esan North East One, and seconded by Donald Okogbe of Akoko-Edo Two. A vote on the matter saw 14 members in favour of the suspension, six opposed, and three abstaining.
Speaker Blessing Agbebaku had previously instructed all members to debate the issue before ordering the clerk, Yahaya Omogbai, to conduct a headcount.
During the suspension period, legislative leaders of the affected councils will assume leadership responsibilities.
