DESOPADEC Takes Flood Prevention Efforts to Jesse Town

To address recurring flooding in oil-producing communities, the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, has started a large-scale de-silting operation in Jesse town. The campaign kicked off on July 25, 2025, with work ongoing across several roads including Ukuedejor, Police Station Road, and Olympia Road.

The effort aims to clear blocked canals and drains using heavy equipment like trucks and pay loaders. Residents hailed the intervention, saying it had already made a noticeable difference during rainfall, allowing customers to access her shop without difficulty.

While a downpour briefly disrupted operations on August 4, it served as a reminder of the area’s vulnerability to flooding.
