Delta Police Dismantle Interstate Kidnap Gang

Police of the Delta State Command have dismantled a major interstate kidnap syndicate operating across Delta, Rivers, Enugu, and Imo states.

Spokesman SP Bright Edafe said operatives from the CP-Special Assignment Team arrested 21-year-old Idirisu Yakubu in Port Harcourt on Friday, May 16. He later led officers to the gang’s alleged leader, Bello Amodu, 40, and another suspect, Umar Mohammed Beto, 38, both also arrested in Port Harcourt.

Further investigation led police to a bush along Ughelli–Ozoro Road, where they recovered an AK-47 rifle with 23 rounds and a pump-action shotgun with seven cartridges.

In a separate operation, the Eagle Net Surveillance Team arrested 53-year-old Benjamin Benemor in Warri. Weapons recovered from his home included multiple firearms, a battle axe, and 15 live cartridges.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, May 15, Rapid Response Squad officers arrested two men on the Asaba-Benin Expressway after discovering a fabricated Beretta pistol during a vehicle search.

Delta State Police Commissioner Olufemi Abaniwonda praised the officers’ professionalism and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity. Investigations are ongoing.
