Delta Govt Vows to Complete Orere Bridge Despite Setbacks
The Delta State government has restated its determination to complete the Orere Bridge, a major infrastructure project intended to link more than 30 communities across Ughelli South and Bomadi local government areas.
During an inspection of the site, Commissioner for Works, Reuben Izeze, commended the contractors, Obakpor Engineering for progress made, noting that 250 metres of the 500-metre bridge have been completed. However, work has recently slowed due to a mechanical issue with the contractor’s barge.
The commissioner urged the firm to consider alternatives to avoid similar delays in future and stressing the importance of speeding up construction ahead of the intensifying rainy season, as forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.
He also acknowledged concerns over the rising cost of transporting construction materials, such as sand, from neighbouring Bayelsa State.
Despite challenges, Mr Izeze expressed optimism, citing clear signs of progress since his last visit, including completed retaining walls and ongoing surface work.
