Cancer advocacy efforts received a major boost in Asaba as the Delta State Government approved a ₦10 million contribution to “A Ride for Life,” an initiative focused on supporting indigent cancer patients across Nigeria.
The donation, authorised by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, was presented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, who said the gesture reflects the administration’s commitment to humanitarian causes and its recognition of cancer as a growing public health challenge.
Beyond the financial support, the state government revealed plans to establish cancer treatment centres within Delta State to reduce the dependence of residents on medical care outside the state. Health Commissioner Dr Joseph Onojaeme added that emphasis is being placed on early detection and prevention, especially for breast and cervical cancers, alongside investments in modern diagnostic equipment such as functional MRI machines across the three senatorial districts.
Founder of the initiative, Miss Chineyenwa Judith Amadi, expressed appreciation to the state government, explaining that “A Ride for Life” was inspired by personal encounters with cancer patients and is designed to offer hope and financial assistance to those unable to afford treatment.
