Delta Government Shuts Down LPG Project in Asaba
The Delta State Government has sealed an LPG facility under construction along Infant Jesus Road in Asaba over safety and regulatory concerns. The action followed complaints from residents who raised alarm about the plant’s proximity to homes.
Authorities said the project lacked the required consent from the state government, prompting an immediate stop-work order. Residents expressed fear that the facility posed serious risks, especially after a recent gas explosion in another Delta community.
A petition submitted through legal representatives argued that the plant violated safety setback rules and endangered nearby residents and schools, including Infant Jesus Schools, which accommodate boarding students.
While the developers, A.A. Rano Nigeria Limited, claimed to have obtained regulatory approval from NMDPRA, the state government maintained that public safety considerations justified the closure.
