Delta Assembly Set for Public Hearing on Community Security Bill
The Delta State House of Assembly has announced that a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency Law will be held on Friday, May 9.
Organised by the Joint Committee on the Special Committee on Bills and the House Committee on Peace and Security, the hearing is scheduled to take place at the Press Centre within the Assembly Complex on Okpanam Road, Asaba, starting at 10:00am.
In a statement, the Chairman of the Joint Committee and Majority Leader of the House, Hon Dr Emeka Nwaobi, invited contributions from stakeholders, urging them to submit written or oral inputs that could shape the proposed legislation.
The committee is particularly calling for memoranda from the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Ministry of Justice, and the Delta State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).

Additional submissions are expected from the Delta State Security Trust Fund, the State Council of Traditional Rulers, the Directorate of Political and Security Matters, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and other interested parties from both the public and private sectors.
All memoranda are to be submitted in 30 copies, sealed and addressed to the Chairman, Joint Committee on Special Committee on Bills and Committee on Peace and Security. Submissions should be delivered to the Clerk of the Committee no later than Thursday, 8 May 2025.
The statement emphasised the importance of stakeholder participation, describing it as crucial to the legislative process.
The bill was referred to the joint committee for further examination during plenary on Tuesday, April 8.
