Court Blocks Pro Wike’s Rally in Bayelsa

A Bayelsa State High Court has issued an order preventing associates of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from holding a large political rally in the state. The rally had been scheduled for April 12, 2025, in Yenagoa but has been halted following the court’s intervention.

The ruling, made on Thursday by Justice I.A. Uzakah, was in response to an ex-parte application filed by the Bayelsa State Attorney General, Mr. Biriyai Dambo SAN. The court order, issued in Suit No. BYHC/YHC/CV/133/2025, restrains the defendants, NEW Associates, the organisers of the rally, and Mr. George Turnah from holding or participating in any political gathering within the state.

The court also named the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as a defendant, alongside the Nigeria Police Force and senior police officials from Bayelsa State.

The order prohibits any attempt to convene or facilitate a political assembly aimed at supporting or celebrating Wike in Bayelsa, pending a full hearing of the case.

The matter has been adjourned to April 11, 2025, for further proceedings.
