Tinubu Expands Coastal Highway, Gives Edo 100km Slice
President Bola Tinubu has redrawn the map of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to include Edo State, an addition long missing from the original vision. This move grants Edo a 100-kilometre stretch of the massive federal infrastructure project, previously routed through eight other coastal states.
At an event in Benin City, Minister of Works David Umahi announced the decision, crediting Tinubu for personally ordering the alignment change. Umahi said Tinubu had conceptualized the coastal highway decades ago but now sought to correct earlier exclusions with this new adjustment.
Governor Monday Okpebholo responded with gratitude, calling the move a significant gesture from the president to the people of Edo. He stressed that while the coastal highway is a federal initiative, the state will continue to fix its own failing road networks, particularly the Benin–Sapele–Warri route.
The governor also issued a broader appeal, stating that only through joint responsibility can government regain public trust. “Our people are watching if we all play our part, the criticism will turn into confidence,” he said.
