Delta Assembly Retreat Seeks Budget Reform Ahead of 2026 Fiscal Plans
Lawmakers in Delta State have begun a three-day retreat aimed at strengthening their oversight of public finances ahead of the 2026 budget cycle.
The retreat, taking place at the State Assembly Complex in Asaba, focuses on building the capacity of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriations. Speaker of the Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, said the event is critical to ensuring that the state budget reflects both transparency and the priorities of Delta’s citizens.
Addressing participants, the Speaker said budget figures represent more than allocations they reflect the government’s intent and responsibility to deliver development. He urged committee members to treat the appropriation process as a key legislative duty.
Committee Chairperson Marylyn Okowa-Daramola said the retreat will help lawmakers evaluate the forthcoming budget proposal more effectively. Technical sessions are expected to cover budget preparation, fiscal oversight, and tools to improve legislative scrutiny.
