Women Group Urge Chevron to Meet Olu, Shun Protest Leaders

A women’s group from Warri Kingdom has asked Chevron Nigeria Limited to stop talks with protesters in Ugborodo and instead meet with the Olu of Warri. The call was made during a peaceful protest in Warri on Tuesday.

The group, Voice of Warri Kingdom Women Initiative, said community leaders who handled talks in the past failed the people. They insisted that traditional leadership should now handle all discussions with the oil company.

The women said they had earlier given Chevron a 90-day notice before the protest started at the EGTL facility in Ugborodo. They demanded training, jobs, fair contracts, and open access for host community members.

They also warned against allowing a few people to control benefits meant for the entire community, saying fairness is key to lasting peace.
