Ekurede Youths Protest Alleged Breach of Olu of Warri Order

Youths from Ekurede Community in Warri Kingdom came out on Tuesday to protest actions they say go against the Olu of Warri’s order on youth leadership. The protest was peaceful and drew young people between the ages of 18 and 40.

The youths insisted that the August 23, 2025 directive of Ogiame Atuwatse III mandates the retention of existing youth structures until a new framework under Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths becomes operational. They argue that any parallel arrangement undermines both the throne and the emerging government-recognised system.

Protest leaders Okotie Temisanren and Bawo Akpafu accused some Ekurede elders and Chief Edwin E. Olley of pushing an alternative leadership plan, including the alleged installation of a man above the approved age limit as youth chairman. They warned that such moves could deepen tensions if unchecked.

Calling for urgent royal intervention, the youths appealed to the Olu of Warri and UIY leadership to enforce compliance. They reiterated loyalty to the throne, stressing that their action was orderly and aimed at preserving peace and traditional authority.
