We Did Not Boycott Dangote Refinery-DAPPMAN
Petroleum products marketers have refuted claims of a boycott of petrol from Dangote Refinery Warri Sentinel confirms.
In a chat with newsmen, Olufemi Adewole, Executive Secretary of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) hammered on the need for clarity for things to work.
“The sector needs to operate transparently in a manner that allows all stakeholders to thrive and contribute significantly to the quest of ensuring availability, reliability and accessibility of petroleum products nationwide,” he stated.
The federal government announced on September 13, that the petrol supply from Dangote Refinery will start on Saturday, September 14. This follows an agreement on pricing and supply.
Zacch Adedeji, a member of the Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products, and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, disclosed that NNPC will be the only buyer of petrol from the refinery, with other marketers getting their supply from NNPC.
He also noted that NNPC Limited will start supplying 385,000 barrels of crude oil to Dangote Refinery on October 1, 2024.
Regarding the alleged boycott, Adewole stated it was not true. He said petroleum marketers were waiting for government approval on how to buy petrol from the refinery.
According to him, “DAPPMAN, as evidenced by patronage of various products from the Dangote Refinery by its members, believes firmly in meeting Nigeria’s energy needs. And (DAPPMAN) remains aligned to calls for the nation not to end up in a monopoly, which will only jeopardize our economic growth and development.”
He added that buying will focus on where products are cheaper, better, and more accessible.
Adewole assured that the association will continue to work on providing high-quality fuel and maintaining the sector.
