Warri’s New Development Plan Targets Eko Atlantic-Style Urbanization

The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Isaac Agbateyiniro, has inaugurated the Warri South Properties and Investment Development Board to drive local development in the area.

The inauguration, which was held at the council secretariat, followed the signing of a new bill into law that formally established the board.

Agbateyiniro referred to the creation of the board as the “9th wonder of the world,” adding that it would demonstrate how local governments could play a significant role in achieving large-scale developmental goals.

He disclosed that his vision is to transform the rural areas in Warri into prominent urban centres, comparable to Eko Atlantic City and Banana Island in Lagos State.

“If it can happen in Lagos, it can happen in Warri,” he stated.

The board is set to spearhead property development, industrialization, and commercial growth in Warri South, with a focus on providing affordable housing and creating new opportunities for residents.

He stated that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader growth vision, outlined in the M.O.R.E Grace Agenda, derived from the state government’s M.O.R.E initiative.

Agbateyiniro added that the M.O.R.E Grace Agenda would not only boost local economic activity but also serve as a model for other local governments in the state.

The M.O.R.E Grace Agenda focuses on five key pillars: Growth and Development, Radical Rural Transformation, Agricultural Revolution, Commerce and Industrialization, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

Agbateyiniro also stated that his administration has achieved notable progress in its first five months, and the creation of the new development board is expected to accelerate efforts to improve infrastructure, stimulate the economy, and enhance the quality of life for Warri South residents.

Speaking on behalf of the board, Tsewo Edema, the newly appointed chairman of the board, promised that the board would lead by example. He assured the Warri South council chairman that the board would not only meet expectations but exceed them, bringing prosperity and opportunity to the area.

Other key members of the board, including the Vice Chairman of Warri South, Edafejebre Kingsley, Council Secretary, Emmanuel Nunu, former Warri South Local Government Aspirant, Monoyo Edon, Tuoyo Egbigbeyi, and Peter Ede, were also introduced at the inauguration ceremony.
