Uwheru Youths Protest, Accuse President General of Diverting Slots
Youths in Uwheru Kingdom, located in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, have called for the removal of their President General, Chief Machpherson Igbedi, over allegations of misconduct.
The protesters, who gathered at the council secretariat, on Thursday July 10, accused Igbede of high-handedness and diverting funds including empowerment opportunities meant for the community’s youths. Speaking to Warri Sentinel, they claim he took slots provided by companies operating in the area, including Tantita Security Services and Heritage Company, for personal use.
Some of the protesters also alleged that Igbedi openly boasted about securing his position through financial influence, insisting that only youth executive members had the authority to remove him.
He was further accused of allocating benefits meant for Uwheru indigenes to his lover, who is reportedly not from the kingdom, as well as to close associates.
Following a meeting with the youths, Ughelli North Council Chairman, Jaro Egbo, announced the suspension of Igbedi and appointed Vice President General Agama Oghenerukevwe Wilson as acting leader.
Igbedi has not yet responded to the allegations.
