Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths Association Elects First Executive Council

The Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths Association (UIYA) has elected its pioneer executive council, just one week after its formal inauguration. The move is seen as a milestone in efforts to unify and strengthen the voice of Itsekiri youths.

The maiden election was held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the palace of the Olu of Warri, where 16 leadership positions were contested. The process, conducted under heavy security, was peaceful and transparent, producing the association’s first leadership team.

Joseph Okotie, a graduate of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), emerged as President. He is expected to steer the affairs of the association under the authority of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri.

The development has been welcomed by many Itsekiri youths, who view it as a fresh opportunity to build unity, promote community development, and amplify their influence across the Warri Kingdom and the wider Niger Delta region.

The UIYA was formally launched on August 23, 2025, during events marking the monarch’s coronation anniversary. It was created to serve as a unifying platform, replacing previously fragmented youth groups and strengthening representation within and beyond the kingdom.
