Ugbarajo Itsekiri USA Elects New Leaders at 27th Anniversary

The Ugbarajo Itsekiri USA community celebrated its 27th convention anniversary on 30 August 2025 at the Hall of the Hotel Long Island Marriott, with the theme “Rebirth.”  This comes after a period of internal leadership disputes, the gathering brought a renewed sense of purpose and unity for Itsekiri people in the United States and beyond.

Dr. Mejebi T. Mayor now leads as President, supported by Weyimi Okupa as Vice President, Oduore Ojo as Secretary, Omagbemi Jemine Charles (OJC) as Public Relations Officer, Pastor Dr. Utieyin Edema-Eyen as Financial Secretary, Tinuke Amajuoritse Fadairo as Assistant Secretary, and Oritsemoyogbemi Bowen (Nee Eyeguokan) as Treasurer. The leadership draws representation from chapters across the country, including Washington-Baltimore, New York, Southern California, and Central California.

In his address, Dr. Mayor spoke of a renewed commitment to the Itsekiri community, stressing collaboration, transparency, and active participation. He promised quarterly community updates to ensure members remain connected, informed, and involved in shaping the association’s direction.

The new leadership set out an ambitious agenda for both sides of the Atlantic. In the United States, they will focus on networking, mentorship programs, and strengthening community ties. In Nigeria, projects such as the Ugbarajo cataract eye initiative and scholarships will continue, alongside new plans for trade schools, youth employment opportunities, and a Women’s Health program to improve maternal and child well-being.

The convention ended with members committing to working with the new executives to implement impactful projects for the growth of the Itsekiri heritage.
