Turbulent Weather Forces Ibom Air Flight Back to Abuja
Passengers on an Ibom Air flight from Abuja to Lagos faced an unexpected detour on Thursday after weather conditions in Lagos made landing impossible. The aircraft hovered for about 30 minutes before the captain redirected the plane back to Abuja.
Among those on board was human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who shared updates on social media. He said the flight, which departed around 7:10 a.m., spent nearly two hours in the air before returning safely to its point of departure.
The airline had not released an official statement as of the time the incident was reported. Poor weather patterns have frequently disrupted domestic flights, causing delays and cancellations across multiple airlines this year.
Earlier in September 2025, Air Peace issued notices of delays triggered by heavy rainfall in Lagos and Port Harcourt, warning passengers that safety considerations remained its highest priority.
