Tinubu Names Reno Omokri Among 32 New Ambassadorial Nominees
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a fresh list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, with former presidential aide and social commentator Reno Bemigho Omokri emerging as one of the most prominent non-career picks. The nomination places Omokri, 51-year-old known nationally for his political advocacy and frequent interventions on governance issues on track for a potential diplomatic assignment once confirmed.
Omokri, nominated as a non-career ambassador from Delta State, features on a list that includes several high-profile figures such as former INEC chairman Mahmud Yakubu, former Enugu governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Otunba Femi Pedro, and former minister Femi Fani-Kayode. Tinubu urged the Senate to give the nominees quick consideration, submitting their names in two separate letters to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The President’s latest batch includes 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career nominees, with a total of 10 women across both categories. The candidates are expected to be posted to key diplomatic missions in countries such as China, India, Canada, the UAE, and South Africa, as well as multilateral bodies like the UN and African Union.
The announcement follows last week’s submission of three ambassadorial nominees and comes with a signal from the Presidency that more names will be sent to the Senate soon as Tinubu moves to reshape Nigeria’s diplomatic corps.
