DESOPADEC Intensifies Anti-Drug Campaign in Delta Schools

The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has intensified its fight against drug abuse and cultism among teenagers with a renewed sensitisation campaign across secondary schools in Ndokwa Nation. The latest outreach, led by the Managing Director/CEO, Chief Festus Ochonogor, visited Ebologu Grammar School and St. Kizito College, Utagba-Uno, on November 28, 2025.

Students received practical guidance on the dangers of drug misuse, cult influence, and related social vices. The Commission’s Community Development and Public Enlightenment Department noted that the campaign forms a key part of DESOPADEC’s youth development strategy aimed at safeguarding young people in oil-producing communities.

Ochonogor urged students to resist negative peer pressure and remain focused on building productive futures, warning that drugs and cultism rob young people of their potential. Facilitators held interactive sessions on emotional challenges, peer pressure, and the ripple effects of addiction on families and society.

School authorities expressed gratitude to DESOPADEC for choosing their institutions, calling the outreach timely and impactful. The Commission assured that the sensitisation programme will continue across its mandate areas to promote healthier choices and build more resilient communities.
