Three Feared Dead as Car Crashes Into Parked Truck in Rivers
Tragedy struck on New Year’s Day at the Obiri-Kwerre flyover in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, where a saloon car collided with a stationary waste truck, leading to the death of three occupants, including a man and his daughter.
The crash occurred in the early hours of the morning as the victims were returning from a crossover church service. While two of the occupants reportedly died instantly, another victim later passed away in the hospital. Other passengers sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
A relative of one of the victims, Engr. Ajiboye Amaho, blamed the incident on improper parking of the waste truck without warning signs. He urged authorities to investigate the matter and called on waste management agencies to enforce stricter monitoring of their contractors to prevent further loss of lives.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident, with its spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
