Delta Govt Hails Police After New Year Security Operation in Asaba

The Delta State Government has commended the state police command for restoring calm in parts of Asaba following attempts by hoodlums to disrupt New Year’s Eve celebrations in the state capital.

According to a statement released by the New Media Office of the Governor, the police carried out coordinated patrols across key areas of Asaba in the early hours of January 1, 2026. The operation was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations after reports of activities that posed a threat to public safety.

The government confirmed that 43 suspects were arrested during the operation, while items recovered included 25 vehicles, eight tricycles, fireworks, hard drugs and other dangerous objects. It said lawful crowd-control measures were applied to prevent escalation and ensure the safety of residents.

The statement added that all suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
