Tanker drivers to strike on Monday over CNG truck plans

Nigeria could face fuel shortages after the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Branch of NUPENG announced an indefinite strike starting Monday, 8 September.

The union opposes the planned use of 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks, warning it could threaten jobs and weaken workers’ rights. Leaders say talks with industry operators broke down after new drivers were recruited on non-union terms.

NUPENG has urged the government to step in to resolve the dispute. It warned the strike would halt the movement of petroleum products nationwide.
