Supporters Protest Okowa’s Detention by EFCC
Supporters of former Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa have called for his immediate release from custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The supporters staged a peaceful protest in Owa Alero, Okowa’s hometown in Ika North East, following his arrest on Monday by the EFCC’s Port Harcourt command. He is being investigated for allegedly misappropriating 1.3 trillion naira of the 13 percent derivation fund.
The protesters marched along major roads in Owa Alero, holding placards and demanding Okowa’s release. They insisted that the former governor had done nothing to justify his detention, emphasizing that his eight years in office led to significant progress in the state.
