Senate Screens Newly Appointed Service Chiefs

The Senate on Wednesday commenced the screening of the newly appointed Service Chiefs following a directive from President Bola Tinubu for their swift confirmation.

The military chiefs, led by General Olufemi Oluyede, arrived at the National Assembly Complex around 10 a.m., accompanied by senior officers. Their appearance followed a decision by the Senate to move the screening forward to October 29, earlier than initially scheduled.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio said the adjustment was made to allow the officers assume their duties promptly, ensuring there is no disruption in the country’s security coordination.

President Tinubu had last week announced major changes in the military hierarchy, appointing General Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. Major-General E. A. P. Undiendeye retains his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence. All appointments take immediate effect.
