Reps Approve Oluyede’s Appointment as Chief of Army Staff
The House of Representatives has officially confirmed the appointment of Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff. The confirmation was made during Thursday’s plenary session, following the adoption of the report from the Ad-hoc Committee on Defence, which was chaired by Hon. Babajimi Benson, Chairman of the House Committee on Defence.
Hon. Benson explained that the ad-hoc committee had conducted a thorough and detailed engagement with the nominee and was satisfied with his qualifications, experience, and overall conduct. The committee also noted General Oluyede’s extensive knowledge of military tactics and operations, which he demonstrated during his time in an acting capacity.
The recommendation to confirm his appointment was unanimously adopted by the House members.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier sent a letter to the Speaker, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, highlighting General Oluyede’s diligent service in his acting role as Chief of Army Staff, further underscoring the confidence the president has in his leadership abilities.
