Ndokwa Union Blasts DESOPADEC MD Over Underdevelopment in Ndokwa

The President General of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), Brig. Gen. Mike Ndubisi, has expressed concern over the lack of tangible development in Ndokwa land, accusing the Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Festus Ochonogor, of failing to adequately represent the interests of the Ndokwa people.

Brig. Gen. Ndubisi made the statement during a visit to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at the Government House in Asaba, where he led the NNU leadership. While he commended the governor for adhering to the rotational principle of appointing an Ndokwa son as the head of DESOPADEC, he voiced dissatisfaction with the agency’s performance under Ochonogor’s leadership.

“Apart from the monthly stipends given to some privileged youths, there is no visible evidence of DESOPADEC’s impact in Ndokwa Nation,” Ndubisi said. “The Ndokwa Nation pleads with you to direct the DESOPADEC managing director to bring massive development to Ndokwa land, just as his predecessors did for other ethnic groups during their tenure.”

Governor Oborevwori, in his response, reiterated his policy of non-interference in the operations of DESOPADEC. He advised the Ndokwa people to engage directly with their representatives in the commission, including the managing director.

Oborevwori stated that those appointed to serve in the commission, including the managing director, are meant to represent the interests of their respective communities, and that each ethnic group has a say in how its budget is allocated.
