Protestors Block NPA Expressway Warri In Protest Against INEC

The NPA Expressway, Warri by New Port has been barricaded by angry Warri Youths following a proposed delineation document released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stakeholders of Ijaw, Urhobo and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities at a ward delineation stakeholders meeting at the Government House Annex, Warri on Friday April 4, 2025.

The peaceful demonstration, which began on Saturday, April 5, gathered momentum by Monday, April 7, with protesters blocking sections of the NPA Expressway to express their grievances with the proposal.

The protesters expressed dissatisfaction with the proposed changes, calling on the federal government to prevail on INEC to recall what they described as an “acted script” by INEC and their “scriptwriters”.

There are growing indications the proposed delineation could negatively impact the representation of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality at all levels.

As at the time of writing this report, the protestors pledged to remain on the road until relevant government agencies address their concerns.
