Peter Obi Cancels Engagements After Doctor’s Advice

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has announced a short break from public activities on medical grounds. He disclosed on Saturday via his official X handle that he had been unwell while attending an event in Enugu.

Obi explained that a doctor prescribed medication and advised him to rest for a few days. “In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend. I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding,” he wrote.

Despite health challenges, Obi said he had continued with community engagements, including a visit to Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Anambra State. He made an initial ₦10 million donation to support the Aguata Diocese’s acquisition and revitalisation of the hospital, which is planned to expand into a health complex with training schools.

From Isulo, Obi proceeded to Owerri, Imo State, where he attended a dinner hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. He commended the Diocese’s vision, noting that investment in healthcare remained one of the most meaningful contributions to national development.
