PDP Factions Clash in Abuja Over Party Leadership
Violence erupted at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday as opposing factions confronted each other amid the party’s deepening leadership dispute. Supporters from both sides gathered in large numbers, leading to heated exchanges that quickly escalated.
Police intervened to break up the confrontation, deploying teargas to disperse the crowd and prevent further unrest. The clash came as tensions rose between two groups each insisting on control of the party’s national leadership.
After restoring order, officers cordoned off the area surrounding the secretariat to maintain security and restrict access. The heavy police presence helped stabilise the situation, though emotions remained charged.
Party officials later appealed for restraint and urged members to remain patient as efforts continue to resolve the leadership crisis through internal dialogue.
