PANDEF Honours Media Icon Amuka-Pemu at 90
The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has paid tribute to one of Nigeria’s most respected media figures, Prince Sam Amuka-Pemu, as he marks his 90th birthday.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Ambassador Godknows Igali, the group described Mr Amuka-Pemu as a “trailblazer in the history of journalism in Nigeria,” lauding his lifelong dedication to the profession and his role in shaping national discourse.
Mr Amuka-Pemu, fondly known as “Uncle Sam”, is the founder and publisher of Vanguard Newspapers. He began his career as a columnist and has remained a towering figure in the Nigerian media landscape for decades.
“There is no gainsaying; you are a columnist and publisher of the highest repute,” the statement read, praising his contributions to journalism and nation-building.
PANDEF also offered prayers for his continued health and quoted a biblical passage, Philippians 1:6, in their message of goodwill. The tribute comes as prominent figures across politics, media, and civil society honour Amuka-Pemu’s legacy and his impact on press freedom in Nigeria.
