Oyibode Calls for Educational Reforms and Revival of Moral Values

The Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Vincent Oyibode, has decried the decline in moral values among youths and called for urgent reforms in the educational sector. His comments came during a visit by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) on Wednesday, January 15.

The NAPPS delegation, led by Dr. Ochuko Akpeme, National Vice President for the South-South region, and Rose Onajite, Chairman of the Udu chapter, met with Oyibode at his office in Otor-Udu, the administrative headquarters of the local government. The visit aimed to discuss potential collaborations and address ongoing educational challenges in Delta State and beyond.

Dr. Akpeme praised the Chairman for his leadership, acknowledging his efforts in community development and commending his integrity.

“Your dedication to the betterment of Udu is inspiring,” he said, while reiterating NAPPS’ support for educational growth.

In his address, Oyibode expressed appreciation for the visit and raised concerns over what he described as a moral decline among the younger generation. He lamented the erosion of traditional disciplinary practices, which, according to him, had once been integral to shaping responsible and hardworking individuals.

“It’s shameful that we’ve reached a point where we can’t even correct our children properly. Back then, discipline was strict, and it shaped us,” Oyibode said. He highlighted how both schools and parents once worked together to instill a strong sense of responsibility, but expressed concern over the rising trend of parents seeking ‘special centres’ help to enable their children to cheat in exams.

“This moral decay is setting a dangerous precedent. We must return to the values that made us strong—discipline and hard work,” he added, urging educators and parents to unite in promoting integrity.

Onajite reassured the Chairman of NAPPS’ commitment to supporting initiatives that promote both educational and moral development in Udu Local Government.
