Delta Activist Calls for Transport Fare Reduction

Delta Human rights activist and author, Israel Joe, has called on the Minister for Transportation and state commissioners to reduce transport fares in light of the recent decline in petrol prices.

Joe criticised the current fare structure, describing it as “wickedness” and urging that it be adjusted to reflect the lower fuel costs. He pointed out that high transport fares affect all sectors of the economy, particularly food production, a burden the public must bear.

In his statement, tagged “Operation Reduce Transport Fare” via his social media handle on Wednesday, January 15, Joe recommended that the Minister and Commissioners of Transportation in collaboration with National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) engage in dialogue with transport operators to expedite fare reductions.

He further advised the Commissioner for Transportation in Delta State, Onoriode Agofure, to convene a meeting with local transporters . An initiative he believes would promote the legacy and administration of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
