Outrage as Video Shows Senator Kelvin Chukwu Assaulting Constituent

Senator Kelvin Chukwu, who represents Enugu East Senatorial District, has come under public scrutiny after a video emerged showing him physically assaulting a constituent during a football competition he organised in Amurri community.

The tournament began in December 2025, with the final match held on January 3, 2026. Footage obtained by SaharaReporters shows the Senator confronting the individual during a disagreement on the pitch.

Another video showed a member of the Senator’s security detail also assaulting the same person, who was later arrested and detained. The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of armed security personnel.

Chukwu, who recently defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress, was elected in 2023 following a rescheduled election in the district. The incident has sparked reactions among community members and political observers.
