Olu of Warri Commissions New Wema Bank Branch in Ubeji

Wema Bank has launched a new branch in Ubeji, located in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, in a move aimed at expanding financial access and driving local economic development.

Construction on the branch began in January 2025. It is expected to provide essential banking services to residents of Ubeji and nearby communities such as Egbokodo, Ifiekporo, and Jeddo.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Thursday, was led by His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri Kingdom. The event brought together government officials, community leaders, and bank executives, reflecting the broader significance of the development for the region.

The branch was made possible through the efforts of Warri South Local Government Chairman, Hon. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, in collaboration with other stakeholders. Speaking on his behalf, Vice Chairman, Kingsley Edebrejevre announced a ₦10 million loan programme aimed at supporting market women in Ubeji, with the goal of strengthening local businesses and encouraging entrepreneurship.

In his address, Wema Bank, Deputy Managing Director Oluwole Ademisimi stressed the bank’s commitment to using technology and partnerships to support individuals, SMEs, artisans, startups, and multinationals. He stated that the Ubeji branch is a modern facility built to promote innovation, financial inclusion, and youth empowerment.

Equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure and designed to serve a wide range of customers, the branch is positioned as a financial hub for the area. Its presence is anticipated to improve financial services, stimulate trade, and attract investment.

Among those in attendance were Emmanuel Erikowa, Wema Bank’s Warri 1 Branch Manager, and Hon. Mofe Pirah, alongside various community representatives who welcomed the bank’s entry as a positive step toward sustainable development in the region.
