FG Terminates Levant Contract Over Benin-Warri Road Delays

The Federal Government has cancelled the contract awarded to Levant Construction Limited for the Benin–Sapele–Warri Road project due to continuous delays and abandonment of the work site.

The road project, which is part of the Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme, has been stalled as the company failed to meet deadlines despite multiple warnings.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, speaking after a meeting with contractors in Abuja, expressed frustration over Levant’s refusal to resume work on their assigned section, even after Edo State Government stepped in to repair the most damaged 23km stretch at a cost of N35 billion.

Umahi stated that the ministry does not prioritise any region but follows the President’s directive to continue all inherited projects regardless of location.

He also updated on other major road projects underway, including a 164km highway valued at over N500 billion, and a 750km route connecting Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna, funded at N825 billion.
