Oleh Women Protest Against Heritage Oil, Demand Gas Turbine and PIA Rights

A group of women from the Oleh, Emede, and Olomoro communities in the Isoko South Local Government Area staged a protest on Wednesday outside the operational base of Heritage Oil Company, operator of Oil Mining Licence (OML) 30. The protest aimed to voice their demands for the establishment of a gas turbine plant and the right to produce the Chairman of Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) among others.

The women gathered at the company’s gate, holding placards with slogans such as “No Gas Turbine Plant,” “No Operations,” “Heritage Crisis Provocateurs,” and “Depart from Our Land.” They vowed to remain at the site until their demands are met, significantly disrupting the company’s normal operations.

Responding to the protest, the Chairman of Isoko South council Area, Friday Ovoke Warri, addressed the women, urging them to remain calm while efforts are made to resolve the issues at hand. He stated that meaningful development cannot occur in an atmosphere of conflict and assured the protestors that their concerns would be addressed peacefully.
