Oborevwori Hosts Peace Talks Between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Monday met with leaders from the Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities as part of efforts to resolve their decades-long land dispute.
The closed-door meeting, held at the governor’s residence in Osubi, brought together key stakeholders from Udu and Warri South-West local government areas, along with members of the state’s peace committee handling the crisis.
During the dialogue, both communities reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and agreed to uphold the resolutions reached through earlier negotiations.
Governor Oborevwori said the state was committed to lasting peace and stability in the region. He commended community elders and youth leaders for showing restraint and a renewed willingness to find common ground.
“I am encouraged by your readiness to pursue peace,” he said. “What we need now is patience, understanding, and unity to move forward.”
According to the governor, a formal pronouncement on the terms of the settlement agreed upon by both sides would be made in the coming days.
Representatives of the two communities thanked the governor for his personal involvement in the reconciliation process and pledged to uphold the peace efforts initiated under his administration.
The Aladja–Ogbe-Ijoh land dispute has spanned decades, occasionally flaring into violence. The latest dialogue is part of renewed efforts by the Delta State Government to foster dialogue and achieve a sustainable resolution.
