Oborevwori, Guwor Mourn Ex-Deputy Governor Elue
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Dennis Guwor, have expressed grief over the death of the state’s former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue, who passed on at the age of 85. Elue served as deputy governor to former Governor James Ibori between 1999 and 2007.
In separate condolence messages, Oborevwori said the state received news of Elue’s passing with shock and pain, while thanking God for his fulfilled life of service to Delta State and Nigeria. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor noted that the late elder statesman was known for his humility, dedication to duty and steadfast loyalty during his years in office.
The governor highlighted Elue’s role as a seasoned administrator and respected teacher who mentored younger generations. He added that the former deputy governor’s calm disposition, wisdom and commitment to unity strengthened democratic governance in Delta, particularly in the early years of the Fourth Republic. Oborevwori also recalled his immense contributions to peace, unity and development in the state.
Guwor, in a message conveyed through his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, said Elue’s impact on governance, peace-building and community development remains lasting. He noted that the late statesman, who hailed from Obior in Aniocha North, demonstrated loyalty, dedication and wisdom in service to Delta State and Nigeria.
