Oborevwori Demands End to Age Fraud at Youth Games

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has urged the National Sports Commission (NSC) to take immediate steps to curb age falsification at the National Youth Games, warning that the credibility of the competition was at risk. He made the appeal on Saturday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, during the closing ceremony of the 9th edition of the Games.

The governor said the event had showcased sportsmanship and unity, but cautioned that the practice of states fielding over-aged athletes undermines the Games’ purpose as a nursery of young talent. He called for stricter enforcement to restore integrity to the competition.

Oborevwori congratulated the 6,382 athletes and officials who took part in 37 sporting events, stressing that both winners and non-medalists had inspired the nation through resilience and determination. He also thanked President Bola Tinubu, the NSC, coaches, and volunteers for ensuring a smooth tournament.

In the final medal standings, Lagos emerged champions for the first time with 110 medals, including 52 gold. Delta finished second with 114 medals but fewer golds, while Edo claimed third place with 79 medals. In total, 33 states made the medal table with 802 medals shared among them.
