Obi Reaffirms One-Term Promise, Says Four Years Enough to Fix Nigeria
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to serve only one term of four years if elected president, saying that is enough time to make meaningful impact.
Obi, in a statement posted on his social media handle, said history has shown that great leaders do not need to stay long in power to leave lasting legacies. He cited examples of former U.S. Presidents Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy, as well as South Africa’s Nelson Mandela, who all served short terms but are still remembered for their leadership.
He also addressed growing public distrust toward political promises, saying many Nigerians now doubt anything politicians say. However, Obi insisted he is different, pointing to his record as former governor of Anambra State. According to him, he delivered on his promises in education, healthcare, road infrastructure, and financial management without deviation.
Obi outlined his agenda, which includes fixing governance, improving national security, strengthening education and healthcare, and supporting small businesses. He added that his goal is to move Nigeria from consumption to production through agriculture, manufacturing, and technology. He concluded by reaffirming that he would not exceed four years in office, saying leadership should be about service, not personal gain.
